RIVER DROWES report from Lindsey Clarke – Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd July 2012.

The fishing on the Drowes remains very good. There were nice water levels over the week , especially for the fly and there were good numbers of salmon caught once again. Given here are some of the records from the Catch Register. On Monday, Chris Coulter recorded a 6lb grilse caught on a fly from the Sea Pools. On Tuesday, Richard Anthony registered a 6lb grilse caught on a fly from Briney’s. On Wednesday, Dessie Moynes logged 4 salmon caught. The fish weighed between 2 & 7lb and were caught on worm from The Grazings with 2 of these released. The following day, Dessie recorded a further 2 fish caught weighing 3 & 5lb on worm from Briney’s. On Friday, Johnny Philpot logged a 3lb grilse caught on prawn from the White Rock. On Saturday, Ers Frei accounted for 2 grilse caught weighing 3lb each. The fish were caught on worm from the Mill Weir & the Salmon Leap. Tom Colgan recorded 2 grilse caught weighing 3 & 3½lb on worm from Briney’s. On Sunday, Tony Parker had a good day catching and releasing 4 grilse on a spinner from the Crooked Hole & the Mill Pool. The fish weighed from 4 to 4½lb. Gary Morrow registered an 8lb salmon caught on shrimp from the Money Hole. Darryl Kennedy logged 2 salmon weighing 7 & 8lb caught on shrimp from the High Bank and Bill Likely accounted for a 7lb salmon caught on a Toby spinner from the Wee Drain. A Spanish party consisting of 6 rods left on Friday. They fished for just over the last 2 weeks. For their stay they recorded 41 salmon caught weighing from 2 to 10lb. Most were caught on flies with a few of these caught on worm.

With the good run of salmon continuing and fair water levels, prospects look very good again for the coming week.

 

LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd July 2012.

Lough Melvin was quiet this week. There were few boats out and little effort for salmon. Rods reported a few sonaghan caught in the deeps but there is not too much to report this week. John Higgins reported a 4½lb grilse caught trolling at Roosky Point.
