Monday 13th August Laune running clear at over 3 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s. This is beautiful water for all methods and perfect for fly fishing. But the water level and clarity could change during the day with the rain we had in Kerry last night. What we want now is no rain and falling water then the fishing would be excellent.
But even at almost 4 feet on the gauge Michael Bowe from Cork on Wednesday managed to land a beauty of 11 lbs on the fly at Johnston’s. Over the weekend a lot of fish ran the system. We are beginning to see more grilse caught and still anglers are meeting fish in double figures.
Wednesday 15th August report from Billy Cotter
This morning “river rising fast running clear for now but don’t expect that to last. Beat 3 high but lovely water” . Despite the heavy rain all fisheries above the Gweestin will probably remain fish-able.
