Tuesday 11th September: The Laune in good shape this morning, up a nice bit running clear, lets hope this brings an improvement in the fishing.
On Wednesday 5th faith in the season was restored somewhat by Jim Flinders who had a beauty of 12 lbs at Johnstons. Billy Cotter played a big fish above the railings at Johnston’s the fish ran all the line and backing off the reel, when the pressure came on the hook hold failed. Tony Murphy lost another good one at Heffernan’s, all fish hooked on the fly.
One outstanding achievement among otherwise hopeless fishing was Liam Philpott managing to catch his first ever salmon on the fly at Johnston’s on Friday. An 8 lb bar of silver dripping in sea lice and Liam lost another fish spinning.
Fishing over the weekend could only be described as poor. Despite this Mike Crowley opened his account with a sea liced grilse at John Breen’s and Stewart Stephens had a nice fish of 6 lbs at Gorry, both fish were returned.
But I cant believe there wont be a pick up, this refreshing drop of rain may as in previous years get a few fish to take.
Beat 3 water has fallen back considerably making the fishing there a lot easier. Billy Downes had a nice fresh fish of 6 lbs there on Thursday evening and also returned a nice fresh sea trout.
