Ghillie/Guide Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on the Lough Currane system:

21/08/12: Straight to the Sea Trout department Mr. Ger Fogarty caught 2 Sea Trout, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com . Now we head down stream to the famous Butler Pool and catch of the day goes to renowned Local Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan @ [email protected] and his Guests. Mr. John Hammond of Dublin, caught 3 Grilse while Mr. John Parkinson, of Stoke on Trent in the UK, caught 2 Grilse, all ranging in the 3lbs to 5lbs class.  So congratulations to them all on a fine catch. Wind WSW fresh to strong with reasonable cloud cover.

22/08/12: Again the Waterville Fishery came up trumps. Straight to the action in the Salmon department, and my Salmon of the day,  goes to 9 year old, Master Sandy Innes of Edinebrough, Scotland, who caught his first ever Salmon weighing in at 6.5 lbs.  May it be the first of many.  Then it was the turn of his Father, Mr Collin Innes who finished their day off with a fine Grilse of 5 ¼ lbs.  Both Salmon were caught on the troll. Their Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com was telling me that Sandy, caught his first Sea Trout on the fly yesterday and finished his day off with a Brown Trout, also caught on the fly. So you can say, Sandy, captured the grand slam of fishing.

Mr. Tommy Duffy with his 9.2lb sea trout caught on fly

Now to the hired out boat department of Waterville Boat@[email protected] In the specimen Sea Trout department, Mr. Tommy Duffy of Co Fermanagh caught a fantastic 9.2lbs Sea Trout on the fly.

Wind SW fresh with reasonable cloud cover, with the odd light shower.

23/08/12: I Start with a backdate 0n the 16th of August; Mr. Pat Kennedy caught a fine Sea Trout on the fly in the 5lbs class on the Lake. Next we head upstream to the Commeragh River where Mike The Matador of the Bull ring caught a fine 5lbs Sea Trout on the Garden Fly.

Now today’s facts, A guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 2 Sea Trout. While upstream at Lough Derriana, Mr Chris O’Sullivan of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea  @ [email protected] caught 2 Juniors.

Wind SW fresh and overcast with heavy rain this evening.

24/08/12 : In the Sea trout department a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine 3lbs Sea Trout. Cutting  across the Valley to the River Inny and catch of the day, goes to Mr. Tim Luddy of Co Cork, who, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com, caught 3 fine Salmon. Jjust for the record there was a good spate coming down the Inny, and there were a few Anglers manipulating up there and either they failed miserably in catching my Noble Salmon or, and I am sure is the case, they have failed too report their catches and the same goes for Lough Currane.

25/8/12 Straight to the Sea Trout department, a Guest fishing with his Gillie, Mr. Nile O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 2 Juniors and Local Gillie Mr Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishingwithdom.com and his guest, caught 4 Sea Trout, and last but not least, Mr. Eric Long caught a fine Sea Trout of 4lbs on a dry fly off the point of Grassy Island. Wind NNW light with reasonable cloud cover.

26/8/12 Lough Currane was on the quiet with a SSW fresh wind. But not if you were fishing in Mr. Terence Wharton’s Boat, because he and his guest caught 7 Sea Trout ranging from Juniors up to 4lbs and just for the record it was reported to me today that there were a few nice Sea Trout caught in the last few days, by anglers fishing out of Coffee’s Bay.

27/8/12 Straight to the Sea Trout department, a guest, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishingwithdom.com caught two fine Sea Trout ranging from 2lbs up to 5lbs on the fly. Also in good form was Mr. David Burton fishing with his Gillie Tom O’Shea and @ [email protected] caught a fine 2lbs Sea Trout, which he sportingly put back. Mr. Patsy Quilligan of Cork and renowned Angler on both sides of the County, was in good form again with 2 Sea Trout ranging from 2lbs up to 3lbs and finished his day off with a fine Brown Trout and just for the record all fish were sportingly returned.

Now we travel across the Valley too the River Inny, there was a nice spate coming down the river. Local Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer caught a fine Salmon and released my Noble Gentlemen Salmon so he could also do his duty in the upcoming spawning season. That is your ration for this week, from your Gillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery. No Spin No Fly’s just facts
