Matthew Corrigan of Boat-Angling-Ireland.com sends the following report:
Rosco, Gavin, Mark and Harry launched an assault on the Maidens, Larne, in an attempt to bag an end of August Skate. Some classic tackle was resurrected on the day, with an Ambassadeur 20 lever drag (collecters item) matched with an old Diawa rod proving to be the winning combination.
Mackerel, Bullhuss and the inevitable doggies were captured, before a fine Skate fell to the collector tackle in the hands of Mark.
The skate, which had been previously tagged, was originally captured by Ronnie Campbell (Laura Dawn) who operates out of Oban. It was caught in the Firth of Lorne on 30/12/10 and it weighed exactly the same 176lbs, with 605 days between captures.
