Anglers enjoyed some good fishing on the opening day of the Slaney according to this report from the Slaney River Trust…
A very cold opening day kept the fish out of sight with virtually no fish seen on the beats, but they were there! Those who braved the conditions and were out on the river had a productive time. 1″ copper tubes on fast sinking tips were doing the business. Although reports from the river were patchy but I know of at least 15 fish caught in the first 2 days.
Apart from the fresh fish a number of really well mended kelts and a few rawners were also caught.

In a departure from tradition this week Catch of the Week goes to a river and not an angler – The Slaney had a great opening day and is deserved winner of Catch of the Week!
