Guide Richie Johnston of Guide Fishing Ireland reports:
I was recently out of action for a few weeks with busted ankle ligaments sustained after a fall out walking. Just before the accident I had taken a French visitor out for an afternoons Pike fishing. Alexia was in Dublin for a few days and wanted to spend a few hours fishing in an attempt to catch her first Irish Pike.
We went to a midland lake and for the first hour or so Alexia tried fly-fishing and lures. The water was still quite warm and we came across large amounts of roach and perch near some weed beds. Despite a few follows right to up to the side of the boat, the fish eluded Alexia.
While trying the flies we also put a deadbait out the back as the boat was drifting. It was not long before we had a take, and Alexia was soon into her first Irish pike. After a short but strong fight she landed her fish, weighing around 9 or 10 pounds. After a few pictures the fish was returned with Alexia a happy lady.
Moving on, I am looking forward to next week and the group coming to the Western Loughs. The lads are really looking forward to the trip. Interest in the Corrib/Mask Pike trips has been great and I have full compliment for 24th/25th November. Also have additional date of Dec 8th/9th for anyone interested.
Pike Trip weekends to Corrib/Mask include 2 nights in 3* lough side hotel, 2 days guided fishing. Package includes boats, engines and pack-lunches. All for only €280 per person. Maximum 4 people.
To go fishing…
