Lindsey Clarke IFI reports from the Drowes – Week Monday 29th July  to Sunday 4th August 2013

The river continued to drop over the start of the week and by Wednesday the gauge was only reading 0.32 metres. Decent rainfall meant that the river began to rise thereafter and by Sunday the river had crept up to 0.44 metres. More rain is hoped for to lift the level of Lough Melvin and hence give the Drowes better water levels again. The river was fairly quiet with most rods waiting for more desirable water levels. There were some 15 grilse caught by those rods that did fish however. The Kelly party fishing from Wednesday to Sunday reported 6 grilse weighing from 2 to 5lb caught on fly and prawn. On Friday, F. Vandawalle recorded a 6lb grilse caught on a fly from the Black Hole and Harry Lloyd reported 2 grilse weighing 1½ & 5lb caught on a spinner from the Sea Pools. On Saturday, J. Philpot logged a 3lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools.

The forecast for the coming week is for rain showers and hopefully this will be heavy enough to raise Lough Melvin and the Drowes.
