Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association reports on the weekend’s fishing…

Tuesady 6th river now just under  3 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s, perfect water for all methods.   There has been some excellent fishing over the last four days with most anglers meeting a fish or two in some cases.

The good water is very welcome and fishing should continue to be fairly good for the rest of the week.  Monday evening proved excellent for the fly at Johnstons with Richard Barry opening his account for the year with a beauty of 6 lbs.  Billy Downes had two lovely 6 pounders as well.  Patrick Richard hooked two fish at Paule Connor’s the best 10 lbs but lost both at the net.

Beat 3

As expected with the good water Beat 3 is producing the goods in all pools to all methods by young and old.  This is the ideal water for Beat 3.

Reviving an enthusiastic leaper caught on the fly

Prospects

Excellent if the beautiful water is anything to go by.  With lase netting there should be a better share of the available fish for anglers.  There has to be an excellent chance of a fish on whatever method you try but no guarantees and you have to be there and put in the effort.
