Ian Powell of the Blackwater Lodge reports that the river had been very quiet since May 6….

It has been falling steadily & fining off since and is  now coming into cracking order with the Ballyduff gauge on 0.63m this evening and clarity 3-4 feet.

On the 13th, one of our guides had two fish on the fly in one evening’s fishing on club waters up river.

On Tuesday the only rod out on our waters had a sea-liced 8½ pounder on the upper river, and one of our syndicate rods reported catching a 13½ pounder on a private beat on the upper river as well.

On Wednesday one of our guests who had just completed 2 hours tuition with Glenda fished on afterwards for half an hour and promptly caught a sea-liced 10 pounder on a #11 Cascade tied by his son!

Then the syndicate rod who caught yesterday’s 13½ pounder reported two 9lb. fish released on one of our upper beats – both on spinner.

Prospects
With the river fining off well, prospects of sport are looking superb as there is now
obviously a good head of springers in the system & the river is coming into superb condition.
Three springers in just a couple of rod hours says it all…

Fishing Syndication: We initiated a very limited syndicate scheme in 2010. This was extended further in 2011 with membership for either the full season or just the first 4 months. This scheme will continue for 2012, providing an enticing opportunity for those who are able to fish the Blackwater more often. More details on this can be found on this link – Syndication
