Shane Gallagher from the Drowes reports

30/09/2013: Another fishing season has come to an end. Although water levels rose to 0.6 on the gauge in the last 10 days of the season and finished today at 0.5 metres, the season will be remembered for the prolonged drought which lasted from the mid summer heatwave to the last weeks of the season. Fishing conditions during the summer months were extremely difficult. On the positive side there were large numbers of fish present. But they remained very difficult to tempt.

Over the past 10 days there was an increase in fishing activity with the welcome fresh water moving some fish. Most of the fish reported ranged from the slightly coloured to the boot black, which were duly returned. Some fresh fish were reported in the past week, mainly from the old Sea Pool and Meadow as well as a sea liced fish of 7lbs from the Terrace on a #10 Flamethrower.

The automatic live feed from the gauge at the Four Master’ Bridge to waterlevel.ie has been out of action for the past couple of weeks. Hopefully the OPW will have it up and running before too long as it has proved a valuable resource.
