Lindsey Clarke IFI reports on LOUGH MELVIN – Friday 1st  to Sunday 3rd February 2013.

Lough Melvin opened for salmon fishing on Friday. On Friday the weather however was horrible with wintery showers and strong winds. The lough was also coloured in the shallower areas due to the incoming streams being in a state of high flood. Only 5 boats ventured out on Friday. The weather on Saturday was distinctly better and the day brought lovely sunny’ though somewhat cold conditions for the greater part of the day and 6 boats ventured out. Sunday returned to horrible weather conditions with rain, sleet & strong winds and it seems there was little angling effort. We have not heard of any salmon caught so far and there is little to report except for a 4lb trout Kelt caught which was instantly returned.
