23/02/2013: Mr. Otter is indeed a very prolific fisherman as he managed to land a 16lbs 5 ozs fish in the Kings pool in very difficult conditions. Ha, ha I do of course mean the 4 legged otter who obviously had a nice feed last night when he bagged this one.
Surprisingly he hadn’t eaten very much so for what’s left we are most grateful to you Mr.Otter.
It was actually the O’Boyle party of Ken, Ray, James and Guy who are here enjoying the wine, food and art weekend who discovered the fish in shallow water. I was showing them how to fly fish at the time. From the attached picture one would assume they had caught the fish but we were all privileged to see such a fine salmon so early in the year.
As some of our serious anglers have arrived I hope it’s not just Mr.Otter who has his name on the score sheet in the near future!!
25/02/2013: It’s great to see families continuing the tradition of fly fishing. Philip Clesham whose father Mike from Kilbernie, Aashleigh (who landed many a Delphi salmon in his time), landed a sea liced fish of approx. 8lbs in the Whin pool yesterday evening. The fish was taken on a Stoats Tail and provided great sport.
The pool had already been fished a few times in the day so maybe Mike who passed away last year was giving a helping hand. Conditions were also far from ideal. So well done Philip.
I’m afraid I have no picture of the fish as it was released but I am including one of the Whin pool this morning, which I think captures the sheer beauty of the Delphi valley. Although I’m sure many of you fishermen would prefer to see grey clouds and rain.
I should also apologise that in my excitement of reporting our first fish I omitted to include that the fish was indeed caught on (no marks for guessing) a Willie Gunn.
Hopefully the few serious anglers we have this week will keep the trend of the last few days going!!
