Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association reports on how the Laune has been fishing recently…

Tuesday  27th August river still falling slowly,  just under one foot on the gauge at Johnston’s, nice water for all methods but another foot would be welcome at this point.

That said there was a 14.5 lb fish caught on the fly at Heffernan’s on Saturday and Stewart Stephens had a bar of silver of 7lbs on Friday evening also on the fly at Breen’s.

There are a few fish being encountered each day but not in the kind of numbers that makes for good fishing.  I fished over rising/showing fish on Friday evening myself but could not provoke a take.

A lot of sea trout see rising and  frolicking  also.

Beat 3

Very low for Beat 3 could be good for trout and if we get water there has to be fish resident in the Beat.

There is always a chance just now but it would be hugely improved with a foot more water.
