Saturday December 7th saw 51 sea anglers from all over the country descend on Youghal beach to fish the inaugural “All Ireland Cod Championship” from 4pm to 9pm. The competition stretch was divided into 3 zones, 2 in the Strand hotel area and 1 in Redbarn. Weather conditions on the evening were excellent with light winds coming in from the South West and this led to superb fishing for the participants. In total 341 fish were landed to 51 competitors and 40 anglers registered their catches in the Walter Ralleigh hotel after the competition finished.
