Charter Skipper John Devereux reports that there has been good sea angling in the Kilmore Quay area in recent weeks. Having received some photos of John’s, I gave him a call to see how things were going for him. John said that sea and fishing conditions are ideal at the moment but that there aren’t many mackerel about at the minute. Recent catches aboard the Celtic Lady II included 24 cod in the 3lbs to 5lbs bracket with red and black feathers seeming to be favourite at the moment. On Saturday 13th July the Castaway Sea Angling Club had an outing and boated 157 pollock, 26 cod, 24 coalies, 4 ling, 4 pouting, 6 grey gurnards and ballan and cuckoo wrasse. Some tope are also being taken off the beaches at Ballyhealey. Other notable catches aboard the Celtic Lady II included a 22lb bullhuss and 15 to 20 bull huss in one day. John also told me about some surprising catches a few weeks back including a double figured cod taken by Maria Corrigan from Blackwater and a giant 13lb sea trout which was caught on an abu tormentor by Dublin angler Conor Divine. Kilmore Quay is one of the countries top sea angling centres and produces a multitude of species so if you fancy a day out on the water with John Devereux off Klmore Quay why not give him a call.
