Ater a bumper Bank Holiday weekend Wicklow Boat Charter’s skipper Kit Dunne reports on another excellent weeks fishing with Specimen fish and double figure Smooth-Hounds. 40+ Hounds are becoming regular on-board LISIN and the pace has really picked up in general.

After one day in Wicklow Bay taking in some Baby Hounds no longer than a dogfish we set off further afield hoping for some more big ones this weekend. Tides had picked up the pace alright but the waters were comfortable enough to fish with braid. Within a half hour we had landed 7 or 8 Hounds and thoughts were on Specimen weights.

I had some very keen Specimen Hunters aboard focussing hard on their task while the rest of the crew were glad to enjoy the great Smooth-Hounds of any weight. Everyone got their share of fish and some were blessed with an odd BullHuss or Thornback Ray.

Sunday was no different at all, Hounds were plentiful and after a long day in sweltering heat 3 fish were kept swimming in the live well for weighing onshore. Two fine Specimen fish were recorded one of 7.95lb for Dan Lynch of Halfway Angling Centre, and one of 10.75lb for avid specimen hunter Noel Lane.

Monday brought some strong winds and a fresh sea, Hounds weren’t taking but Cormac Gannon managed to take the pool with a fine Thornback Ray of approximately 13lb.

5 lovely days, plenty of craic, some serious fishing and a few Specimens recorded and a few burnt heads. A proper summer at last.
