Wicklow Boat Charters Skipper Kit Dunne reports on recent catches of Tope many Bull-Huss and a surprise showing of Bream among 9 species on an inshore mark.
The Tope, much to my delight, still seem to be about, inshore or offshore, Wicklow or Greystones tope are showing up. There have been reports of specimens inshore between Wicklow and Greystones in recent weeks.
A few offshore trips on-board the LISIN have produced regular numbers of Tope and an even more impressive show of BullHuss. Fishing in 40-50Metres deep we rely on Neap tides and when they’re right the fish are caught, with a 153cm long by 54cm girt male Tope tagged and released last week and an impressive 12.5lb Huss.
On the Spring tides lately we managed to bag a few new species on some inshore marks. A few Codling have turned up taking mackerel baits, a few Tub Gurnard were taken o mackerel feathers, and a couple of Ling also. Local Club Wicklow Bay Sea Angling Club had a species competition last weekend and landed, Pollock, Ballan and Cuckoo Wrasse, Dogs, Whiting, BullHuss, and last but by no means least a dozen Bream. We tried for Bream in June as we had them for the last 2 years, maybe the late temperature rise put them back to September, I don’t know, but We’ll take them.
