Wicklow Boat Charters Skipper Kit Dunne reports on increasing numbers in Tope catches including specimens also Hounds and Bull-Huss still showing up.

Tope seem to be showing up everywhere, whether you’re inshore or offshore you have as a good a day. The inshore banks have produced the numbers with 17 Tope in a session recently, while the offshore deeps have produced bigger fish. Anthony Greene of Dublin landed a fine Specimen tope recently of 1605mm long, this was a first for Anthony.

The Smooth Hounds are still there for the taking although not many groups are targeting them lately due to serious shortage of Peeler crab. On a recent trip visiting anglers from the UK landed a specimen Hound of approx. 13lb, it wasn’t recorded, just photographed and released asap.

On the Bull-Huss front we are getting the numbers and a very good weight, of 9 huss caught on a trip recently about 6 were above the 10lb mark. Its now time to work the tides and fish the deeper waters for the specimen Huss and hopefully Spurdogs.

I also have the pleasure recently of meeting a number of fine young anglers, 3 lads showed great excitement on their 10 to 15 dogfish each in an evening session while young Marko showed the adults how its done when he got the most and best Tope on a day trip recently.
