Shane Gallagher gives us the news from the river Drowes:
13/06/2013: The bright sunshine and twenty plus degree heat of last week has given way to sunshine and showers and spells of heavier rain in recent days. Blazing sunshine persisted until Monday with some welcome cloud cover and very heavy rain over Tuesday night. The water level didn’t rise however, it just stopped dropping and remains unchanged at 0.46 metres on the gauge. The water temperature has dropped a little and more heavy rain and unsettled conditions are forecast for Friday and over the weekend.
Conditions have been pretty challenging but some of the persistent have been rewarded as some grilse were running and in recent days some well formed fish in the 7 to 8lbs range have been reported. Most of the fish over the past week have been taken on prawn and worm.

Some of the recent reported catches include; On Tuesday J. Walters had 2 fish of 4.5 and 6lbs from the Mill Pool, on Wednesday M. Norris had a 4lbs fish on worm from The Red Roof and M. Lex had a 3.5lbs fish on fly from the Tinkers Hole, also during the week P.J. Bailey had a 5lbs fish on worm from the Black Hole, P. Flick had a 5lbs fish on prawn from the Mill Pool and 2 fish of around 4 and 5lbs from the Eel Weir on prawn, G. Matier had a 4lbs fish and C. Sinclair had a 5lbs fish both on prawn from the Sea Pool, W. Backert had an 8lbs fish on spinner from the Blackwater, K. Bauer had an 8lbs fish on fly from the Tinker’s Hole and today, Thursday T. Dalton had an 8lbs fish from the Red Roof on black flying c, releasing 2 further slightly smaller fish.
While grilse are running the main run has yet to commence. The forecast rain and unsettled weather should see an improvement in conditions and hopefully greater numbers of fish entering the system.
