Ullcatch discusses bait collection for beginners.  From collecting peeler crabs right through to making up the bait. Some handy hints on what to do;

  • Remember while collecting your peeler crabs, please make sure you put rocks back in the position you found them, as this will help the conservation of our shoreline and any small creatures attached to them to survive.
  • Presentation of the peeler crab is as important as collecting and keeping them; they can be used as bait on their own or as a tip off with rag, lugworm and mackerel. Larger peeler crabs can be cut in half and used on smaller hooks.
  • Depending on what you’re fishing for, will determine how much crab you will use. For flounder, even schoolie bass or codling fishing the follow peeler presentation will be sufficient that you have your crab peeled you will need to cut in half.
