Rob Love was out last week on Rye Lake to test drive some new pike flies and his latest video gives some idea on how exciting fly fishing for pike on the RyeLake can be…

In the couple of hours I had the fishing was smashing.  Although I didn’t get to land any large fish I did have some interest  (the 1st two fish on the youtube video were of a good size).  While fishing with barbless hooks has its benefits it also means you are liable to lose the odd fish or two as happened with the bigger ones here.

I did however manage to return 5 fish to about 5lb and lost or practised “long distance catch and release” on another 4.

Conditions are to remain pretty much the same over the coming week with nothing more forecast than a few light showers so water levels and clarity should continue to be ideal.

If anyone is interested in great fly fishing in the beautiful surroundings of Carton House I can be contacted via my website www.lovefishingireland.com Anglers can also contact Guest Services at Carton House on +353 1 5052000.

Go fishing…

Love Fishing Ireland have a small team of experienced guides available for tailor made fishing excursions for both wild brown trout and pike. While the standard days guiding on the River Liffey or Rye Water will appeal to many, for the more adventurous they offer guided trips by Canadian canoe along what are considered to be the best fishing beats of the River Liffey.
