Cabin fever was beginning to set in for Rookie Bass Angler Steven Neely. So he set off down the country a bit to Monaghan and reports:
Finally managed to get out for a few casts yesterday – it has been an age since I was able to get out and wet a line. As we drove further south the weather began to change and the rain set in. It wasn’t looking great when we crossed over into Co. Monaghan.
Despite the horrible weather we managed 3 fish in the first half an hour – not bad. Sadly it all quietened down for the next few hours. We moved location to try another lake but nothing was moving. Finally we got a break in the constant drizzle and rain as we moved back to the first spot.
The weather calmed and we nailed another three, well conditioned pike. Weed less soft plastics seemed to be doing the trick, allowing us to fish tight up along the margins.
Hopefully we will start to see the weather picking up as Spring is on its way.
