Billy Downes reports that on Sunday 31st August the water level was at a lovely 1 foot on the gauge at Johnston’s and running clear. This was a great improvement on a few days ago. There were a lot of fish met on Friday. One angler at Johnston’s met five fish and landed two. Three Cork anglers met ten fish between them. Our own members met and landed some nice fish also, some fresh and some slightly stale.

Kieran Conlon salmon
Kieran Conlon returned this beauty of about 12 lbs.
Gavin O'Shea and salmon
Gavin O’Shea with his first Laune salmon about 8 lbs from the Rock pool, , what a lovely fish.

Following on from Friday’s successes, Saturday and Sunday were disappointing with few pulls and few fish being seen. The only good thing is that the water is still rising at the Laune bridge and now at over 1m which makes the river down stream very fishable for the next week. I still rate the coming week as the best chance for a fish as this is as good as the water is going to get for now at any rate.
