Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th June 2014.
The Drowes continued to fish well this week and water levels remained fair. The good grilse run continued and there were some 25 salmon caught for the week. Given here are some of the catches taken from the fishery catch register. Monday was a good day with at least nine salmon caught. Stanley Kingham recorded two grilse of 3 & 5lb caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. Chris Sinclair reported a 4½lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pool. Chris McDaid logged a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from the Mill Pool. John Gill registered a 4½lb grilse caught on a spinner from the Black Hole. Paul McCausland recorded a 5lb grilse caught on worm from Red Roof. Eoin McManus logged a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from Corry Clay and John Fox accounted for two grilse weighing 4 & 4½lb caught on a fly from Briney’s & The Blackwater.
On Tuesday, Peter McSharry recorded a 10lb salmon caught on a spinner from Melly’s High Bank. On Wednesday, Jens Frey reported a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from Mowats and John Ford accounted for a 10lb salmon caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. On Thursday, Richard Todd recorded a 6lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. Tom Colgan reported a 4lb grilse caught on prawn from the Eel Weir and Frank Doherty accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on prawn from The Cascades. On Friday, George Matier recorded a 7lb salmon caught on prawn from the Sea Pools and John O’Neill reported a 4lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. On Saturday, Johnnu Philpot accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on prawn from The Blackwater. Next week is forecast to be wetter which should ensure that the river stays in fine fettle and with the continuing good grilse run, prospects look good.
