Great to hear from our buddies down at the Slaney River Trust again. They give us an update and look forward to the new angling season. Lets hope it’s as good as last year. Remember last year’s catch of the week river with 15 Salmon caught in a couple of days !:
26/01/2014: The consistent high water in the past few weeks should help the kelts make it back to the sea. Although the official figures may not be available for a while the encouraging news is that the 2013 spawning season was one of the best in recent years with substantial numbers of fish cutting redds in both the main channel of the river and the usual spawning tributaries.
Although it is yet to be confirmed it looks like the Slaney will open for fishing on 17 March. The regulations will be the same as last year single barbless hooks only to be used for all fishing, catch and release for salmon and sea trout to have a daily bag limit of 3 fish. Fly only rule above the old bridge in Enniscorthy.
