EILEEN CARROLL MURPHY from the Inland Fisheries Ireland office in Macroom reports on salmon fishing in the Cork Kerry area.
FOR WEEK ENDED SUNDAY 8THOF JUNE 2014
LAUNE SALMON AND TROUT ANGLERS’ ASSOCIATION WATERS AND BEAT 3
Angling Report 9th June (Email to Laune Angling Report)
Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association waters and Beat 3.
As of Monday 9th June water at a beautiful 2 feet 8 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s.
Fish of the week goes to Tom Curtayne from Killorglin who landed a beauty of 14 lb. on the fly at Gorry on the 1st of June. Eileen Richards fishing along with her husband Clive has opened her Laune account already with a lovely fish of 7 lb. at the Rock Pool on Wednesday evening. Clive is fishless again so far this year apart from an encounter two weeks ago with the fish of his career which he lost after 15 mins. Patrick Richard had a salmon of 11 lb. three two pound sea trout and for the Laune a remarkable brown trout on Beat 3 of 3 lb. Patrick’s friend Denis Lacroix visiting from France lost a few sea trout but has yet to land a salmon. This writer had a lovely 2 lb. sea trout on a single handed rod during the week at the Rock Pool which was great.
Permits for Laune Anglers waters right now cost only €25 per day.
Beat 3:
This is perfect water for salmon fly fishing on Beat 3. There are a few salmon holding up in pools down river from Beaufort Bridge and a good few sea trout also and in these conditions may be easier to tempt.
There were three fish reported from the beat for the week.
There is also a very good evening rise of brown trout on the beat.

Prospects: The water is perfect and will fall to ideal during the week, there are fish running the river so prospects are as good as they get BUT will enough escape the draft nets to make good fishing for anglers? We will know this time next week.
Anglers please note: A ‘One Day’ salmon permit for Beat 3 only costs €25
