It was the first year of the free customer competition and the buzz was great, prizes were up for the Most Species, Best Specimen and Longest 3 ; Tope, Hound and Huss. After such a good response and so many other notable catches I added the Best Junior, Best Tope and Best Spurdog prizes.

Best Specimen prize went to Patrick O Hanlon for his 15.25lb Smooth Hound.

The most notable thing with the introduction of the competitions was the increase in the number of species caught this year. There were 27 species recorded in 2014, and 16 caught by the Most Species winner, Geoff Hammond, this makes a total of 30 species recorded since we started in 2012.

Best Spurdog prize went to Pat Swan for his Spur of 16.4lb weight.

More focus on Wreck Fishing this year contributed to more species with Pollock, Pouting, Scad, Red Gurnard and Haddock coming. On the inshore grounds Codling, Wrasse, Ling, Tub Gurnard and Black Bream were quiet common.

Thanks were given to Glen Fuels for sponsorship, to the Grand Hotel for the finger food and premises and a big thanks to Inland Fisheries Ireland for their sponsorship of 2nd place rods. IFI were acknowledged for the great work they do and for their support in the last 3 years of Wicklow Boat Charters.
