Leinster Provincial Council of the IFSA held a Shore Angling Coaching Event recently for budding Juniors, (12yrs to 16yrs). 20 junior anglers attended the event on South beach, Arklow aided by 10 anglers & coaches.
7 IFSA Leinster anglers and coaches helped out, while Des Frazier of Southside Angling assisted on the day with Des Chew and Chris Mc Gregor representing the DAI and youth worker Bernie Moloney representing Foróige.
The 20 youths were paired up with experienced sea anglers and coaches who took them through bait presentation, typical traces, casting and practical and safe angling.
Some of the young anglers had some experience and began catching right from the start, small whiting and Dabs were a welcome sight. The less experienced anglers got fist-hand tutoring from our experienced shore anglers. By the end of the session all anglers caught fish, Whiting, Dabs and Dogfish. The weather held off and it was a great day with everyone leaving with more knowledge, from a coaching point of view we learned a lot too.
It was a pleasure to see the first of our coaching sessions rolled, it was well due and will open the door for more shore and boat coaching in Leinster.
On behalf of the LPC I wish to thank everyone who helped to make the day a massive success.
