Despite the cold and sometimes windy weather Lough Derg continues to provide good fishing when anglers are able to get on the water as these reports by local guides Paul Bourke and Hermann Molenaar show…
Report from Killaloe

27 January: Yesterday my clients went back to Holland after a great fishing week. So I took it easy the rest of the day and thought back to the beautiful fish we have caught together. Today back fishing with my buddy and it was great again with 2 pike over the meter mark, only the pike of Pat looks a little bit thicker than mine.
Hermann’s guests had some excellent fishing last week and Maurits’ lovely pike of 111 cm wins our Catch of the Week. – IFI

18 January: Late start at 11.15 but happy enough with 8 fish in the boat. This day after my birthday was even better with 2 pike over the 1 meter mark. Both weighed more than 20 pounds, but they were very different fish.

My fish was 110 cm long and skinny and the other one 103 cm. but much thicker.

Paul Bourke has also managed a few pike since he good the season off to such a good start.
29 January: A recent fish which fell to a modern classic, a Savage Gear 27cm 3d rattle shad brown trout colour. Trolled very slowly this soft bait gets a reaction every time.
