The first week was quiet but then a good run of salmon seemed to ascend the river from the weekend of the 14th & 15th. Two fresh salmon were hooked and lost this weekend. The following week however saw some lovely fresh salmon landed. On the 16th, Paul McCausland caught and released a 6lb fish caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Black Hole. This won him the prize for the first released fish which was a GoPro camera.

On the 22nd, Jason Nash recorded a 0pb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from above the Turn Hole and Simon Harris reported a 9lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure upstream of the Ash Hole. It was great to see the fishing pick up on the Drowes after the lean start and also it was also pleasing to see the quality of the salmon caught which were lovely deep bodied fish. Prospects look good for the coming week although the first half of the week is forecast to be very unpleasant!
