Lindsey Clarke reports from RIVER DROWES – Monday 24th to Sunday 30th August 2015.
Water levels remained good on the Drowes all week. The gauge at the start of the week read 0.65m The River continued to rise until Thursday when it peaked at 0.68m for the week. Thereafter, the river gradually dropped and by Sunday the gauge read 0.67m. The river was fairly quiet for the week as is usual for this time of the season but there were a few grilse recorded by those rods that fished.
On Monday, Nigel Abrahams recorded a 3lb grilse caught on a Rapala lure from the Black Water. On Tuesday, Nash McDaid reported a 4lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Mill Pool. Johnny Philpot registered a 4lb grilse caught and released on shrimp from the Black Hole. David Carolyn accounted for 2 grilse weighing 2½ & 5½lb caught on a fly from the Black Water. With wet and variable weather we are receiving at present, the Drowes is guaranteed to maintain its good water levels next week.
