19 July: Water levels were very good at the start of the week with the gauge reading 0.28 metres at its highest on Monday. The river then fell over the next 3 days but then we received a good flood on Friday evening and lovely water levels on Saturday (0.28m) and Sunday (0.50m). The gauge average for the week was good reading 0.29 metres. The fishery was busy with 63 visiting rods fishing for the week. There were decent numbers of salmon caught during the good water periods.

On Monday, Davy Arbuckle accounted for a 6½lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 8. Michael McCrory reported a 4½lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 8 and Adrian Whelan accounted for an 8lb salmon caught on a spinner from beat 8.

On Tuesday, Michael McCrory logged a 2½lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 7.

On Saturday Hugh Mooney recorded 2 salmon weighing 9 & 9½lb caught on a spinner from beat 5. John Northridge reported 2 grilse weighing 4 & 6lb caught on a fly from beat 4. Frankie Byrne logged a 5½lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 5 and Damien Doherty registered a 10½lb salmon caught on a fly from Beat 5.

On Sunday, Adrian Whelan reported a 14lb salmon caught on a spinner from beat 8 and Jim McLean accounted for 2 grilse weighing 5½ & 6½lb caught on a spinner from beat 8.

The forecast for the coming week is for showery weather and I would expect some good water levels in the river. Prospects look good for the coming 7 days
