Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

20/5/15 There was reasonable action on Lough Currane in the fly department and I will leave the best to last so lets get to the action. We start on the South side, Mr. Tim Macey caught a fine 3 ½ lb. Sea Trout on the fly, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com Now we head across the Lake to the North side and Vincent’s Harbour, UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a first class Sea Trout of 4 ½ lb. on the fly.
Mr. Marcel Guillou with his 4.5 lb. sea trout
Now we will indulge in the Grilse department and I am open to correction but I believe this is the first one this season and if I am correct that honour goes Mr. Arthur White of the UK, caught one of 3 ½ lb. on the fly, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley. Now to the à la carte Sea Trout department and catch of the day goes to Mr. Ken Towner of Waterville and the UK, who caught a cracker of a Sea Trout of 8 ¼ lb. on the fly, while fishing with his good friend Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] Ken was telling me that he had one hell of a battle with his Sea Trout and his Trout rod was doubled for well over 20 minutes which not surprising. Wind WNW fresh with reasonable cloud cover

21/5/15 Now to today’s facts and there was some great action, we will start in the hired out department of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] Mr. Andrew Wishart, of Northern Ireland, caught a fine 9 lb. Salmon on the troll. Staying in the Salmon department, local ghillie Mr. Junior Scully, caught a 7 lb. Salmon on the troll. Now we head to the Sea Trout department. Dutch Anglers fishing with their ghillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught a fine 3 lb. Sea Trout on the drift, also in good form was UK angler Mr. Arthur white, while fly fishing with his ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught 3 fine Sea Trout their weights are as follows, 3 lbs 8 oz 3 lbs.12 oz. 2 lbs. 8oz. Mr. Vince Roach fishing in the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com caught a fine 3 lb. Sea Trout on the drift and staying with Franks Hired out boats, Mr Michael Heery met a good few Brown Trout up to 1 lb. and a good few Sea Trout which were taking short and just for the record other anglers were reporting that they met a good few Sea Trout, but alas they couldn’t get the full rod bender. Wind Westerly fresh with nice sunshine this morning then the fog came in with light rain for most of the afternoon.
22/5/15 There was great Sea Trout fishing on the Premier Sea Trout Lake of Ireland, on Lough Currane today. We start in the C&R department, Mr. Rod Robinson of Waterville caught and released a specimen Sea Trout in the 8 lbs. class.

Now to the King of the fly on Lough Currane, UK Angler Mr. Sean Smith, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com kept his reputation as the King of the fly, when he caught himself a fine Sea Trout of just under the specimen class. Staying in the Sea Trout fly department, UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou and his good Lady, while fishing with their ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught 4 Sea Trout, weights as follows, 5 lb. 4 lb. 3 lb. 2 lb. Marcel also was telling me that they lost one good fish. UK Angler Mr. Arthur White caught 2 Sea Trout ranging from 3 lb. up to 5 lb. while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley and just for the record Bob has some great photos of the past few days.

Local ghillie Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com caught and released 2 Sea Trout, ranging from 2 lb. up to 4 lb. Now we go to the Brown Trout department on the upper lakes, on Lough Namona on Wednesday the 20th, Mr. Jim Sayers, caught 5 Brown Trout ranging from 1 lb. up to 2 ½ lb. and a good few more in the smaller class. Wind WNW fresh with reasonable cloud cover.
23/5/15 Lough Currane was on the tamer side today, but at least there were a few rod benders in the Sea Trout department. UK angler Mr. Arthur White, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley, was in good form again with 2 Sea Trout ranging from 2 lb. 8 oz and 1 lb. 12 oz. UK angler, Mr. Marcel Guillou, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine Sea Trout of 4 lbs. Staying in the UK Anglers department, Mr. Michael Smith of the UK caught a fine Sea Trout 4 ½ lbs. on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com there is a very good Chinese saying, what honourable Son could do yesterday, honourable Father can do today and the truth of the pudding is in the eating of. Local ghillie Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com reported that early this morning that he saw a good few Sea Trout, but alas they wouldn’t rise to his flies and also gave me a diplomatic verbal thrashing for not putting up his C&R 4 lbs Sea Trout on the Blog , I stand corrected and as you can see I have put the record straight.

Wind West light with good cloud cover and humid.
24/5/15 Sadly the Lough Currane Anglers were not working hard enough in my opinion, be it in the Sea Trout or Salmon department, here are today’s facts and manipulations, first in the C&R striking Zone was UK Angler Mr. Sean Smith, who caught a fine 4 lb. Sea Trout on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com also in good form with the fly was UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught and released a fine 5 lb. Sea Trout. I am sure there were a few more Sea Trout being caught but alas sadly my Noble Anglers weren’t letting their fingers do the talking at the end of their day and if you don’t have a contact number here it is, my mobile number 087 2074882 or email sa[email protected] Wind NNW fresh with good cloud cover.

25/5/15 Straight to catch of the day and that goes to Mrs. Julie Sanderson and her Husband Neil tells the story. Really like the website: “it whetted our appetite in the lead up to our fishing holiday. We had a great morning on Currane today. My wife caught a 6.75 lb. sea trout on the fly – certainly the best fish I’ve ever seen”. Find attached a photo for your website if you would like it. Her name is Julie Sanderson, thanks. I certainly do like the photo and please repeat as soon possible. I would like to finish their days fishing on this note, congratulations Julie on a great fish and may it be the first of many. Staying in the Sea Trout department, UK angler Mr. Michael Smith, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught and released a fine Sea Trout in the 3 lb. class. renowned Artist Vincent Donnelly of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNcnWKFVpxY and this is his story of the one that got away, Its all yours Vincent. I hooked a rock, then it slowly started moving off not skipping across the surface but down deep. I played the rock for over an hour and then my top dropper came slowly to the surface next to the boat, where a salmon came out of no where and grabbed the top dropper and tore off. I was disgusted. I finally landed the salmon hoping and praying the line behind the salmon would still be tight but it was slack the Big rock was gone and I will keep that memory until I die. I came close to shedding a tear. Wind was all over the place with reasonable cloud cover.
26/5/15 I start today’s notes in the apology department again, its getting a bad habit. On Saturday 23rd, Mr. Sean Brick of Tralee caught a 3 ½ lb. Sea Trout on the drift, sorry for that Sean you can say I failed miserably in my duties. Staying in the update department on Sunday, UK Angler Mr. Pete Maxi, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Sylvester Donnelly, caught 2 fine Sea Trout on the drift, ranging from 2 lb. up to 3 lb. and yesterday, UK Angler, Mr. Arthur White, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught a fine Sea Trout of 1 lb. 12 oz. Now back to the present, the majority failed miserably in their duties in all departments, but I will let Mr. Terence Wharton Jnr, have the last say on today’s action. I text Terence any good ? He replied, yep, caught 1 Sea Trout of 3 lb. On the fly, wind North, no good for man nor beast, he replied.
27/5/15 Straight to the Sea Trout, fly department, UK Angler, Mr Sean Smith, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught and released one 2 lb. Sea Trout. Now to catch of the day and hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com as you can see by the picture theses Anglers, Mr. Andy Faulkner, Mr. Jim Savage and last but not least Mr, Steve Savage had a cracker of the day, they caught 3 Sea Trout a 3 lb. Sea Trout, a 5 lb. Sea Trout and finished their day off with fine Specimen Sea Trout of 6 lb.

All caught on the drift and for the rest of angling community the least said the soonest mended. Wind West strong with reasonable cloud cover.
That is your ration for this week, from your Ghillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery. No Spin No Fly’s just facts
