Ken O’Neill from IFI Limerick reports on some of the pike fishing reports he received from anglers while on patrol…
We encountered quite a few anglers on Derg in the last week. They all agreed that the rewards made it easy to convince themselves to get out on the water and brave the cold lake conditions on the lake.
Of all the pike reported to us the largest was an 18lb fish. The average weight is between 7 – 11 lbs, generally. Of course there are good numbers of jacks about too. Anthony Gilbert caught 4 jack pike during his 4 hours on the last last Saturday afternoon – but he still said it was well worth the effort!
Angling guide Herman Molenaar had some good fish for himself and his clients in the last few days. Herman’s best fish last month measured 110cm.
Herman Molenaar offers guided pike fishing on Lough Derg. Specialises in the Dutch market. Boat hire, tackle shop and accommodation also available.
