Vincent Appleby reports from Lough Currane which sawan improvement in the salmon and sea trout catches alst week…

15/6/16 Dr. Jim Comerford fishing out of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught a fine 3 ½ lbs. Grilse on the troll. In the hired out boat department of Waterville Boats and at [email protected],Northern Ireland angler Mr. Andy Wishart, caught a fine 5 ½ lbs. Grilse also on the troll . Wind NE fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

16/6/16 The Fly headlines go to Northern Ireland Angler, Mr. Louis Millan, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 4 lbs. Grilse. Now to the trolling department, Local Angler Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, caught a fine 4 ½ lbs. Grilse on the troll and by all accounts, Mike had a good battle with his Noble Salmon as it took a few good dives. An unnamed angler while fishing with his Gillie caught two Sea Trout in the 2 to 3 lbs. class on the fly.. Wind NE fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

17/6/16 There was some good fishing on Lough Currane today so straight to the action. We start at the Top of the Lake. An Italian Angler fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught 2 Grilse on the Troll  both in the 4 lbs. Class and finished their day off with a Sea Trout. Now we head down the North shore and into the bungalow where Northern Ireland Angler, Mr. Stuart Millen, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 4lbs. Grilse on the fly. Now to the hired out boat department of Waterville Boats and at [email protected], Northern Ireland Angler, Mr. Gavin Wishart, while fishing with his Uncle, Mr. Andrew Wishart, caught a 4 lbs. Grilse on the troll. Wind NW light with good cloud cover.

18/6/16  Straight to the Sea Trout department, UK angler, Mr. Alex Muir, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 3 lbs. Sea Trout, on the fly. Wind west with good cloud cover.

19/6/16 In  the www.lakelandshouse.com hired out Boat department where Mr. Phil Hawker caught a fine 4 lbs. Grilse and Mr. Alan  Donoghue of Dublin, caught 1 Sea Trout/Junior and just for the record both were caught on the fly.  I will put the rest of today’s action or the lack of it in the words of  renowned Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com, “No need for the paparazzi today, blown off the Lake at Lunch time, gale force SW wind with heavy rain”. Just for the record it has made a flood, how big will be interesting to see. The reason I say this is because I’m sure the land will take a fair bit of it as its very dry. There was 33.1 mm of rain.

20/6/16 Straight to the artists of the Sea Trout department. UK Angler Mr. Lindsay Richards of Chester, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught two fine Sea Trout both in the 2 lbs. class. An angler fishing on the River Inny caught a Salmon in the 9 lbs. class on the fly. Wind NW light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover with light misty rain this afternoon at times.

One of 2 grilse caught by Peter Liddell. Peter retruned this one, about 3lb and kept the other, a 4lb fish
Peter Liddell

21/6/16 Straight to the fly department, Mr. Peter Liddell, Fishing out of www.butlerarms.com and fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 2 fine Grilse ranging from 3 lbs. up to 4 lbs. Just for the record the 3 lbs. Grilse was returned to tell the story of his battle to freedom. Wind SW light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover and staying with the weather even though it made 33.mm of rain, the dry land took the most of it and Lough Currane only rose by a few inches

That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
