Billy Downes tells us that as of Tuesday 2nd August Laune raising slightly after Monday’s rain. The river was at 1.1m and still rising. It was carrying a good bit of colour from the Gweestin but this should be cleared by now. News of fish being caught or met is scarce enough despite a good angling effort.
That said a few anlgers met success including Dr Jim O’Sullivan who has become a recent convert to fly fishing. Jim met three fish on the fly in two visits to the Laune in recent days. He managed to land two of them. Tony Murphy had a good fish at Johnston’s on Saturday.Visiting angler Matze Tamme from Germany who was fishing with his friend Matt Standen had a nice peal on worm on Friday and John Turner had a nice fresh fish of 5 lbs at Heffernan’s.
To have a chance of a pull: Fish late, fine, small (trout flies – Alexandra ) and far off with a trout rod. Dr James O’Sullivan had success with grilse and sea trout in last week during the evenings with his trout rod.
