Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 14th February to Sunday 20th March 2016.
Water levels were lovely all week on the Drowes. The week started with the gauge at the Four Master’s Bridge reading 0.63m and the river dropped slightly over the days to Sunday due to the lovely, dry spring weather. By the end of play on Sunday, the gauge read 0.53m. The fishery was fairly well attended with most rods fishing at the weekend as would be expected.

To date there have been 5 salmon recorded in the fishery Catch Register for the week. On Monday, Stephen McGimpsey recorded a 7½lb salmon caught and released again on a Flying ‘C’ lure from just upstream of the New Road Bridge. On Wednesday, Sean Brophy reported a 9lb salmon caught on worm from the Mill Pool. On Thursday, Chris O’Neill registered a 6lb salmon caught on a Rapala lure from Scot’s Corner. On Saturday, Dermot McNeice recorded an 8½lb salmon caught on prawn from the Trout Pool. There were also a couple of further salmon (in the 7 to 8lb bracket) caught of which we await details. On Sunday P.J. Bailey reported a 7lb salmon caught on worm from the Mill Pool. Prospects for the coming week look good with the onset of spring tides which always bring more salmon than neaps.
