Vincent Appleby reports from Lough Currane where a few salmon have been caught in the last week…
1/4/16 This April fools day was on the angler, as the weather took control of the Fishery which is not surprising with a strong gale force wind from the SW with very heavy rain and made a good flood, come afternoon the wind dropped and the sun broke through, my Noble anglers could head out and the ones that did failed in all departments.
2/4/16 In the Sea Trout Department, Local Gillie Mr. Eric Jouen of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] caught a fine sea Trout in 4 to 5 lbs class on the troll and as Eric said and I quote, “I will have to do catch on release now until May, running out of tags. It was a good battle with this sea trout”.

Mr. Gerry O’Sullivan of Cork and Waterville, also makes the head lines on Lough Currane today and for good reason. He caught himself a fine 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Gerry was telling me that he didn’t get out there until 2 pm and just as he was about to head for home the rod went off at 5pm and the rest is history. In the words Of Gerry, “I’m good! the proof is all there for every one to see”. Wind Southerly and light with good cloud cover and staying with the weather, the amount of rainfall yesterday was 32.6 mm. Just for the record there were at least 9 or 10 boats manipulating.
3/4/16 Today was on the quiet side in all departments on Lough Currane and with bright sunshine and slack winds that’s not surprising so the least said the soonest mended. On the upper Lakes, on Lough Namona, Angler Mr. Chris Fogarty and Party, caught some fine Brown Trout up to 3 lbs. plus and they were well satisfied with their day’s manipulation.

4/4/16 Where do I start? the same way as I finished yesterday. Yes, you have it. All anglers failed miserably in all departments. Wind NE light and bright sunshine with some cloud cover at times.

5/4/16 There was some Good action on Lough Currane today so straight to the action. First in the striking zone was Local Gillie Mr. Tam Hitmiang and of www.vincentsfishing.com fishing with his good friend Mr. Henry Hunt of the Smugglers Restaurant, Waterville. They caught a fine 8 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll going by the bungalow. Staying in the Salmon department two anglers fishing on their own caught a small Salmon, but a Salmon is a Salmon. Fair play to them. Wind West light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Last but not least I would like to thank Mrs. Marita Hitmiang for taking all the fantastic pictures today.

6/4/16 Lough Currane was on the wild side, in fact so wild the majority of anglers headed for the high stool instead of fighting the rough elements of Lough Currane. Two boats did venture out, one angler came up Trumps and that was Kilkenny Angler Mr. Tommy Duggan, who caught a cracker of a Salmon in the 13 lbs. class on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com. The philosophy of the day is, you can’t catch my Noble Salmon if your not out there. Wind north strong especially with the Hale and rain showers and cold.
That is your ration from last few days on Lough Currane, from your Ghillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
