Lindsey Clarke reports from RIVER DROWES – Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th February 2016.
The Drowes continued to fall over the week and by the end of Sunday the gauge at the Four Masters Bridge read just under 0.7 metres. This gave nice water levels and there were 3 salmon recorded this week plus another so far unreported for the previous Friday. The salmon caught on Friday 19th weighed 7lb and was caught by Richard Todd on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Stone Ditch.

On Monday the 22nd, Johnny B recorded the first fly caught salmon of the season. This weighed 8½lb and fell to a size 8 Willie Gunn double at the tail of the Crooked Pool. On Saturday, two further salmon were recorded. Brian McEvoy reported a 7lb fish caught on a Devon Minnow from Briney’s and Joe Broderick accounted for a 9lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Bridge Pool. Things are starting to liven up on the Drowes and with the nice water levels prospects look good for the coming week.
