Eileen Carroll in the Macroom office reports that the River Bandon was low for the week ending 03 June and there were about 6 salmon reported. However there was heavy rain over the long weekend resulting in a good flood and good numbers of salmon and grilse were seen jumping the weir in Bandon so prospects were much brighter over the last few days.

Jason Nash from tells us that on Tuesday this good run of salmon and fresh water turned into decent fishing as Joe Nash caught a hat trick of fish, released one and lost another. Most fish caught following the flood were taken on spinner, but the fly is accounting for a couple also. The biggest off the river so far was a 15lb sea liced beauty.

Ruairi with his first ever salmon, which weighed 10.5lb and was taken on the fly.

The river was rising yesterday but should be fishable today if no more rain falls. Water clarity best suited to spinning and worm, but a salmon may take a fly in some areas.

For the new year, Bandon Angling Association have set up a new website which you can view here. A new guiding service has been launched in conjunction with Jason Nash, Peter Aspinwall and Phil Dewey. Details of the guiding service are provided on the website and they are looking forward to making memories and enhancing people’s fishing experiences on the river Bandon.

Kilcoleman Fishery, Enniskeane, is renowned for its hospitality. The owners David and Patricia Lamb make a particular effort to make their guests feel at home. Past visitors have described the atmosphere as ‘laid back’ and the accommodations as ‘cosy’. Kilcoleman is “fly only” throughout the entire season. However, in certain water conditions, spinning is permitted for salmon. Trout angling is “fly only” at all times.
