Levels on Drowes dropped last week, 9 salmon reported

Monday 3^rd  to Sunday 9^th April 2017.

The Drowes dropped fairly rapidly over the week and at present the gauge is reading just over 5. A bit of rainfall would help levels greatly. There were 8 salmon caught this week.

On Tuesday, Colin McCormac recorded a 9½lb salmon caught on a fly from the Mill Pool. Billy Grimes reported a 9½lb salmon caught on a fly from Briney’s and Darryl Kennedy accounted for 2 salmon weighing 9lb & 9½lb caught and released again on shrimp from the Old Sea Pool and Melly’s High Bank respectively.

On Saturday, Jim Moran logged a 7lb salmon caught on worm from the Eel Weir. There were a further 3 salmon caught of which we are awaiting full details.

LOUGH MELVIN

It was much the same story this week as last week on Lough Melvin. Pretty quiet! We have heard of no salmon caught and there were not many rods out fishing for the same.

River Drowes

The Drowes Fishery is one of Ireland’s premier spring salmon and grilse fisheries. The river is some 5 miles in length, with over 70 named pools, flowing from Lough Melvin at Lareen Bay and entering the sea at Tullaghan, just outside Bundoran. The Drowes has a wide variety of water suitable for all fishing methods, including several miles of good fly water and deeper slower moving pools suitable for spinning and bait fishing.
