Last Sunday the Bug from Killkenny asked did I want to join him for a day’s fishing on Derravaragh as he had ventured up with young Carlow angler Bob Doyle. I took up the invite, and it was nice to sit back and just fish without driving the boat, as Tommy took his Lung up, which is powered by a Yamaha 40hp. We had a magical few hours and managed to catch some good pike. The 12 years old Bob Doyle was in the thick of the action landing a personal best pike of 107cm, just short of 20lbs.
I think the photograph of Bob and his prized catch, tells its own story and we had some fun watching Bob play this huge pike. When Bob eventually settled after we photographed and released the fish, he told me his legs were shaking as he played the fish. Priceless memories for his first trip to a Midland Fishery.
