Michael Flanagan reports on the Finian Darby Memorial Cup fished on Lough Derravargh at the weekend…

We had a lovely day out last Sunday on Derravaragh fishing the Finian Darby Memorial Cup. It was a lovely bright calm day, but high water and an over night heavy frost made a huge difference to the fishing. The pike were reluctant to feed, and some competitors had to cancel their trip to Derravaragh due to driving conditions.

Saying this 43 anglers competed and it was Rooskey Co. Roscommon Angler Pat Healy who produced the winning pike of 107.75cm. The lads from Wildhunter at Duskin Center near Golden Island in Athlone, Brian Connaughton and Paul Martin finished 2nd with 101.5cm. James Cottrell came over from Slane in Co. Meath and produced the 3rd longest pike measuring 90.75cm.
