Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association reports on the latest salmon catches on the river…

The Laune as well as other rivers in the south west have been impacted badly by high water levels this spring resulting in poor catches. Reports are of good fishing continuing in Killarney so we certainly have plenty fish running the Laune, we just need conditions to improve to increase our chances of meeting a few fish.

Fly fishing on the Laune

Up to 03 May, fishing on the Laune has been quiet, again due to lack of anglers fishing because of high water levels. There have been a few fish reported caught spinning and a few lost. Members Brian Mohaly & Damien O’ Brien fished the Laune at the end of April. Despite the high water they manged to meet one fish on the fly using a skagit head and T-Tips. Sadly the fish was lost after a brief battle. The river has dropped considerably since t and it is nohen and was at 1.5m on 03 May; okay order for fishing.

Water levels are currently reading 1.3 at Laune Bridge so hopefully fishing on the river will pick up now.
