Jim Lionehan of the Deora Dé reports on a practice day that saw 20 species landed…

An unofficial “fun” practice day today for the UKCS crew ahead of the 2018 CSSC Sea Angling Boat Final on Thursday out of Cobh saw 5 of the early arrivals three of the competitors and two of the boat stewards fishing on Deora Dé do a little species scratching on a few of the marks to be fished on Thursday.

The Mackerel were at best patchy but they managed to get enough and now also have a supply to start them off again on tomorrow’s official “serious” practice session.

Their efforts in today’s session saw them catch 20 species all of which will count if caught on Thursday. They managed the following species today: Mackerel, Launce, Grey Gurnard, Tub Gurnard, Red Gurnard, Cuckoo Wrasse, Corkwing Wrasse, Goldsinny wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, Ling, Pollack, Blonde Ray, Thornback Ray, Dragonet, Lesser Spotted Dogfish (LSD), Cod, Flounder, Pouting, Dab & Poor Cod.

Much to our surprise not a single Whiting came to the boat from any of the marks fished today!

International Deep Sea Angling Festival

The 2018 Cobh SAC International Deep Sea Angling Festival (3rd – 7th September) is not that long away. We need to confirm boats, so for anyone fishing please leave your name as a comment here so that we can get an indication of numbers.

Go fishing…
