Osgur Grieve reports from the Erriff River…
01 June: We finally got our big flood yesterday after a very dry month of May. Dr Ansgifr Von Der Harr released a fine fresh spring salmon of 9lbs in the upper square pool on beat 9 and lost another in the coronation pool on beat 8 using a cascade tube. Regular angler Kevin Attride released a fine 10.5lbs spring salmon in the evening using a park shrimp conehead in the Coronation Pool on beat 8. Ross Hunt also fished with us today and had a great morning landing 2 salmon in the middle Garden Pool on a yellow and grey salmon fly. They weighed 4.5lbs and 7lbs.
04 June: Nice water today reading 1.2m in the morning, Gerard Coey jnr. was first off the mark landing a fresh grilse of 3.5lbs from the falls pool on a green butt Cascade in the morning. In the afternoon Jurgen Mantle released 2 wild grilse of 4lbs. and 4.5lbs. using an Ally’s shrimp from the sea pool and upper garden pool. Great to see a few grilse starting to appear, well done lads!
05 June: Regular angler John Phelan returned this morning and landed 2 salmon of 3.3lbs. and 14.5lbs on a Willie gunn tube in the falls pool, this is our biggest salmon of the season so far, well done John!
Go Fishing
The Erriff is a spate river draining beautiful mountain scenery and entering the sea at Killary Harbour, near Leenane. The river is split into 9 beats, and is flyfishing only for the most part. The river provides quality fishing for salmon and sea trout in spectacular surroundings. There is also lake fishing available on Tawnyard Lough, on one of the tributaries, providing sea trout fishing from July to September.
