The Mariners line the beach…

28 December: A fun day out at the daylight league outing during the holidays today. 16 anglers set up in front on the calm inver bay catching some lovely flounders from the off. A few new faces joined in the fishing and everybody on the beach caught fish. An early 38cm flounder for Jason set the mark for longest fish before a treble haul of fish for Christopher. Some good 36cm flounder came on the feed as the tide ebbed and with Dessie and Katie battling it out in zone A it took a late double haul for Dessie to edge it out for overall.. winner of the longest fish cash prize was Jason Greene with a 38cm flounder. In 2nd place overall cash prize was won by Katie McGettigan and 1st place cash was won by Dessie O Keeney.. great fishing well done to all who took part.. There will be no outings now for a few weeks as the boats go back to fish for scad and mackerel. Also a few members were looking for some more club jackets and hoodies or hats so another order will be going in soon if anyone wants to place an order let us know.. the €20 deposit for the Belmullet trip will be taken in January for the April 12th weekend away (Will be refunded down there)

Plenty of Flounder about

03 January: Early January and still getting mackerel at the pier… fresh bait! The shore is still full of wrasse and the boxing day swimmers said they weren’t even shivering coming out of the water

Shore caught sea trout – lovely video of the release on the Killybegs Mariners Facebook page.

04 January: Day one on the beach for the new year provided an acrobatic silver arrow wave dancing it’s way across the surf which was quickly released back where it belongs, really mild conditions in Donegal and great to be out, off the mark.
