The NCFFI reports on it’s latest initiative to get young anglers on the water…

With the aim of introducing more juniors to our sport the NCFFI will, in conjunction with Inland Fisheries Ireland, be announcing a programme of events for 2020. An Angling Awards programme will take our youths through from the grass roots of our sport with practical and educational sessions and for those who excel an opportunity to progress right through to represent Ireland on the world stage. Coaching and safeguarding opportunities will be also be made available to experienced anglers who wish to share their passion for our sport and assist us on this journey. Two national events for young anglers will take place; the All Ireland Junior Coarse Angling Championships in July and the All Ireland Feeder Championships in October. All details to be announced shortly.

Already we have a number of shining young anglers on the path for international recognition and ready to represent us at international championships. Our Youth Manager Gavin Walsh invites applications from interested anglers with a desire to represent Ireland at the World Youth Angling Championships in Hungary this August.

Gavin hopes to field three teams, U15, U20 and U25 and invites both senior anglers willing to assist him in his role, a necessity if three teams are to take part, and those would like to be considered to fish with Youth Team Ireland to contact him as soon as possible.
