IFI is planning to encourage more women to enjoy the benefits of angling.  Between April and September 2020 we are planning to run a number of taster days on the rivers Blackwater, Shannon and Moy.

Women who have never fished before will receive an introduction to all freshwater fishing techniques and for all types of fish.  From these “try fishing” events we hope encourage more women to take up fishing as a sport and join local angling clubs. It will be a fun session of learning the basics and gaining confidence using fishing equipment, wading and casting.

Top Woman Instructor Glenda Powell in Action

We are delighted to partner with Glenda Powell who has vast experience as a coach.  She will be aided a group of recruited volunteer coaches who will focus on each woman as an individual and aim to develop her own personal requirements to enable learning. They will learn at their own pace and ability while feeling safe around and in the water. Each participant will discover the benefits of fishing and the outdoors and will be encouraged to continue with the sport.

Imelda Scallan of IFI will be giving further information about the initiative this Saturday and Sunday at Ireland Angling 2020 in the National Show Centre, Swords, Co. Dublin. So please come along if you have any questions which she will be happy to answer.
